Pauline Johnson, daughter of the Mohawk chief, is one of the Massachusetts poets. Attired in a red woollen, sleeveless short dress, over which was a fringed tunic of buckskin, ornamented with ermine tails and. coloured boads, and with bear claws and panther teeth for bracelets and necklace, she recited several of her own poems at a meeting recently held in Boston. The longest iron railway bridge on the European continent was opened recently across the river Vistula, between Forden, in Prussian 1 Poland, and Culmsee, in Germany. It is 1450 yards long. A young woman named- De Regibus and a man called Bertonaschi, both of Italian nationality, were arrested at Nice recently, on suspicion of being concerned in the murder of Mr. George Mander Allender, who was found dead in a ravine near Monte Carlo on December 30 last. Bertonaschi's personal appearance corresponds with the description of a man who is suspected of being the author of several outrages committed last season. Ib seems that he and his companions left for Turin in March, and I that on their departure the outrages at once ceased. Bertonaschi recently returned, however, and, after being carefully watched by the police, he and the girl De Regibus were arrested. On searching at their lodgings the police. found a sum of 1000 franca for which the prisoners could nob account. A pair of trousers stained with blood and a knuckle-duster with some fair hair adhering to ib were also discovered. Inquiries made by the police have proved that Bertonaschi, accompaued by two compatriots, visited Monaco between December 25 and January 2. The man admits that he did visit Monaco, bub refuses to state the date or the names of his companions.
