HAKABU SPORTS.
The Hakaru sports came off on Tuesday, December 26 (Boxing Day), and were a great success. About 150 people were present. Owing to the slight showers in the morning, the attendance was not so large as it might have been otherwise. The whole proceedings were carried out under the able managementship of Messrs. S. and W. T. Sarah, W. Adams, and G. Hogan, Messrs. A. Stewart and F. J. Law acting as judges. The following are the results of the races : — __ Hurdle Race, 250 yds: A. P. McKay, scratch, 1; W. Allen, 10yds, 2. The other competitors were: Joe Stephens, Onea, and G. Cobb. After a good start, Cobb went to the front and led into the straight, but MoKay and Allen coming up with a rush, wore Cobb down, and McKay beat Allen by about tV ßli y ndfol'd Race: C. McKay. 1. « The other starters were Onea and G. Cobb, but neither finished, both running the wrong way.. 100 yards Handicap: Onea, 6yds, 1; G. Cobb 10yds, 2. The other competitors were, i J. McKay, I; David, 2. ,The other competitors were, C. Leslie, J. Ross, H. Skelton, and S. Sarah.: Hakaru Cup, 220 yds : R. Wedge, 22yds, 1; J. Leslie, 15yds, 2; H. Skelton, 15yds, 3. The other starters were: A. P. McKay, CMcKay, W. Allen, and Onea. After a good race Wedge beat Leslie by about two yards, Skelton being about one yard behind Leslie. All the rest close up. »fHigh Jump for Horses: tMr. J. .Ross' Gipsy, 1; David's Mangonui, 2. The other competitors were: Mr. J. Leslies Ruby, Mr. E. Carroll's Musket, W. T. Sarah's 6 Walker, and S. After a good race and a great; deal of excitement McKay won by about two yards.

This 4 concluded the day's racing and after a sumptuous dinner at the Cornish Anns Hotel, everybody mustered together at the hall to see the well known Silver Star Minstrel Troupe, which turned out to be_everything that • could '■ be deatred.
