. WAINITI CO. V. PCHOI C.C. In response to a challenge the Wainui cricketers visited Puhoi on Slew Year's Day and played a match which resulted in a win for Wainui by 39 runs. The pleasure and fairness of the game was almost destroyed by the ignorance of the umpires, who displayed a surprising want of knowledge of the laws of cricket. Bad umpires are the bane of country cricket. Mr. R. Fennell acted as captain of the Wainui eleven, and Mr. Wenzlick captained the Puhoi team. The chief scorers for Wainui were R. Fennell 49 and 29 and A. Fenaell 16. For Puhoi, M. Wenzlick's score of 27 included three hits for six. The scores are an follow :—
