MAUKU SPORTS.
The annual sports were held in Mr. P. Henry's paddock at Patumahoe, on December 29, but the weather did not favour a good attendance or much enjoyment, There was a committee of nine to carry out the sports. Major Harris and Mr. J. Boden acted as judges, Mr. H. K. Irwin, secretary and Mr. Gallagher, president.
Maiden Race : Glasgow, 1; McShane, 2. Handicap Hurdles, 200 yds : McFarlane, 1: Shaw, 2. Ten started. 100 yds: Kenealy, 1; Shaw, 2. Seven started. Boys' Race, 150 yds : O. Kavana?h. Mauk'u Handicap, 300 yds; Keneally, 50s, 1; MoFarlane, 2. '• V School Children's Race: Robinson, 1. . Suarter-mile Handicap: Seven started, was won by D. Wily, defeating Mc*arlarlane, who is a champion runner, and Wily started at scratch. One-mile Handicap: F. Henry, £5, 1, who ran a good race. __ , Married Men's Race: Won by T. Hedlund. Todd's special prize, pair of trousers : Won by D. Wily; Shaw, 2. Five started. _ Half-mile Handicap: McFarlane, 1; / Wily, 2. > Three started. „..,„, , ■ Hack-horse Race : Won by.Mr. Flaxmans horse, owner up. Four started. ? I doubt the wisdom of sending horses out to race on a course only a-quarter mile round, and very rough. It was surprising there was not an aC H?gh fc jump : Won by Mr. E.
