At the Good Templars Hall, Whangarei, on the sth, an entertainment was given by the Philharmonic Society in aid of their funds. > The attendance on both nights was fairly good, The first piece played was the operetta " Paquerette, Mr. J. R. Reyburn taking the part of Babolet. The Paquerette .was taken by Miss Clendon, and Navette and BlenettoVby- Misses Simpson and McMillan. .',, The duet by .Misses Ciendon and Reyburn, " Upon My Word I Like Your Style," was well rendered. The Quarrelling'' duet, by Misses , Simpson and McMillan, was given with great spirit, and most deservedly encored. The quartette and the Drinking song," by the company, was rendered in most efficient style, and the scene under the elm tree was a charming finale., The quartette, ;," Hark, the Angelus," was the gem of the evening. Too much praise, cannot .be given to the members who took ,part in : the operetta. Their conception of the various characters was excellent, and the stage ..effects-and dresses left ; nothing .to be ; desired. ; ine orchestra, under the leadership,, of Mr. Dobbie, is deserving of great pram for the efficient manner in ; which the instrumental portion of the operetta was; earned out. The overture and the accompaniments in the garden scene were especially worthy of notice. Theeatertainmenb concluded with a farce entitled "Apartments.",,, .h, ~
