Davis, of H,M.s, Royalist, has been created a C.M.G. fß* TEMORAPH.-— OWN CORRESPONDENT.]! •■-.-■• - Wellington, Tuesday^ Sir Westby Perceval is personally congratulated upon being the recipient of the ijoyal favour, From this point of view the compliment bestowed upon him is regarded as a compliment paid to the colony, but all the papers accept it with more or less reservation. The evening papers enumerate nearly a score of names which had deserved such favour of the Crown, viz., Messrs. Bryce, Rolleston, Justice Richmond, and others. The Ministerial journal, although congratulating the new knight, " unreservedly" speaks apparently in the language of disappointment. It says :—" Sir Westby Perceval has been an intermediary of some importance in delicate negotiations with the Imperial Government, and with Sir Walter Buller he has contributed much to the New Zealand Court ab the Imperial Institute. Considering that this is the briefest career on record of any member of the Order of St. Michael and Sir George, Sir Westby must by regarded as an exceptionally lucky politician. It would be idle to pretend that there are nob others of his party who have borne more of the heat and burthen of the day. At the same time, as he has deserved well of the colony, we congratulate him unreservedly."
