THE LYTTELTON ANNUAL DREGATTA.

[Btf TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Lvttkltont, Tuesday. The annual regatta was held at Lyttelton yesterday, and was visited by ati immense number of people. There was little wind and none of the sailing races were of much interest. The Falcon was left to complete P the course in the coasters race alone, while in 9 the yacht races the Masootte annexed the 0 prize for first-class yachts, and the Zephyr t that for second class. The Lyttelton Club i won the senior double sculls, with Canteri bury second, and the same club won the 1 < junior double sculls and pairs, while Lyttel--9 ton and Canterbury finished a dead heat in 1 the senior pairs. Avon won the maiden double sculls and Wairewa the maiden pairs. His Excellency and the Countess 'of Glasgow were present and took ' a keen interest in the racing, more 3 especially so in the races between the EugX lish men-of war Cnragoa and Lizard and the li: French warship Duguay. The Guraooa's 1 crow won the race, and that of the French v ship the other. An explosion was part of 8 the programme, and this was admirably conr ducted by Captain J. Falconer. At 3 p.m. '' the Countess of Glasgow fired the mine, and I an old boat, together with an immense body i of water, was sejit several hundred feet into 5 the air, the sight being a moat effective one. 8 In the evening a display of fireworks on the ■ water was got off, during whioh the French f warship exhibited her searchlights, and one a of the most popular regattas even run at t Lyttelton was brought to a close. ;
