[BY telegraph.—press association.] Napier, Wednesday. The Christmas holidays were spoiled by rain.
John Eaton, aged fifty, a cook on the schooner Orpheus, died suddenly on the voyage of the vessel from Timaru to Napier. The cause is believed to bo heart disease.
Dunedin, Wednesday. The Minister of Lands paid a. visit to town to-day, and attended to departmental business.
