St. Hippo.—A crushing of about 35 loads of quartz obtained from the stopes upon the hangingwall reef, and four loads from the same body in the drive at the low level, was completed this evening at Bull's battery, but too late for banking, consequently the amount of the yield will not be made public until Monday morning. Eight pounds of picked stone were obtained today from the third stope south of the winze.

New Fearnought.— The winze upon the Republic reef is now down a depth of about 34 feet below the floor of the upper level, and the reef still shows gold freely, and maintains a thickness of fully 16 inches. The crosscut for intersecting this reel at a lower level is in a distance of about 14 feet, and the manager expects to intersect the reef by the latter end of next week. There are now about ten loads of quartz on hand, which it is proposed to send down to the Cambria battery for treatment at once.

May Queen. —The cleaning out and repairing of the drive upon the new reef at the No. 6 level in the Saxon section is expected to be completed about the latter end of next week, and when it is accomplished a staff of miners will at once be put on to extend the drive ahead, the face ofwhichisnow about up to the Trenton boundary. The reef bears a very promising appearance, and it is anticipated that the quartz won from it will be of a payable character, and help materially in keeping up the supply of quartz, which will shortly be needed to keep the battery going. A start has already been made to stope in the blocks opened up above the No. 3 level in the May Queen section, and the quartz broken this week has shown gold pretty freely, and a few pounds of picked stone have been secured. Mr. Burch intends increasing the number of men in these stopes next week. A start was made today to forward quartz to the battery, and crushing will probably be commenced on the 4th prox.
