SENSATIONAL SUICIDES IN PARIS.
One night recently the loungers about the bridge of Binean at Courbevoie, Paris, were very much struck by tbeappearance of a man of about 40 years, who came along carrying an enormous stone, to which a cord was attached, upon his shoulder. Upon arriving in the middle of the bridge he placed the stone on the parapet, and then hastily fastened the cord round his neck and mounted the wall. The lookers-on then became aware of his intention, and tried to
provent him carrying out his purpose, which was evidently to commit suicide. But the man was armed with a poniard, with which he attacked his would-be
rescuers, and then, thrusting the weapon into his breast, ho leaped into the river below. Boats were at once put off with the idea of saving him, bub only a dead body! was recovered. An examination ab the Morgue showed that tha neck had been broken by the fall of the stone. A piece of paper was found in the man's pocket, bearthe words " Au«uste Alfred Voiturior, borri at Amiens in 1851."
The inhabitants of the Fauborg St. Denis were also startled by the sensational suicide of a boy of 19, named Jules Gautier. It seems that the father, a watchman, had reason to make some complaints to the lad regarding his conduct. About half-past five he returned home from his work, and without saying a word went up to the fifth floor of the building, opened the window, and threw himself into the court below. He was carried to the hospital, bub died shortly afterwards. A letter of the most passionate character was found in his pocket.
