CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALES. Christchurch, Friday.—The first wool sale of the season commenced this afternoon and continued to-night. For strong lustrous wools and light sound merinos the competition was exceptionally keen. There was a good attendance. The buyers included some who had not previously operated at the local sales. Generally speaking wools this year have been less earthy than last year's clip, but while some are in staple and wellgrown, they are mostly heavy with grease, and in some instances show signs of shearing having proceeded when the sheep were wet.
