City is to stand out with the understanding that should any other club join the Association before Saturday they will meet them. It is certain that this Association will do a great deal for the advancement of* cricket amongst the trades, and also in assisting in keeping up the much-coveted half-holiday. THE CRICKET GROUND. We have received the following letter in reference to the present state of the cricket ground : — Sir, — Being in Auckland, and an enthusiast of cricket, I naturally made inquiries re your ground, and was answered, "Oh? You just come up and see it, it's a lovely ground." Sol went, much to my disgust. What can your cricket Association be doing ? I believe the matches for your championships commence on Saturday, and the grass is long enough for 50 dairy cows to graze on. It certainly should have been cut a fortnight ago with a machine, not left as I saw it, and a couple of men pottering away with scythes. What a laugh this will cause when I get back and "pitch" this little yarn to the boys The Old Brigade.
