CRICKET. H.M.S. TAURANGA V. CITY CRICKET CLUB. A very pleasant cricket match was played on the Domain yesterday, between a team from H.M.s. Tauranga and the City Cricket Club. The sailors won the toss, and elected to bat, on the very excellent wiicket which had been provided by \\ illiams, the groundman, and so successful were they in their batting that they had made 166 runs before their last wicket fell. Towards this amount Lieutenant Abdy, the captain, contributed 65 runs. He hit hard and well all round the wicket. When he had made 36 he was missed at short leg, from a very hard hit. At 53 he put up a ball in the air on the off side, which however fell harmlessly among the fielders. Armourer Coggins played a capital innings for 44, playing the good balls carefully, and punishing all the loose balls severely. Lieutenant Pelly hit very hard for his 30 runs, and had he not missed the ball which bowled him, it would certainly have gone for six at the very least, as the bat flew out of his hand. Copeland, who was by far the most successful bowler for the City, bowled capitally through the long innings ; Langmuir and Holden also bowled well. On the City Club going to the wickets they found the bowling of the man-of-wars-men very straight, and not to be trifled with, and when they were all out, they had only made 43 runs. Crook, Coggins, and Pack bowled for the ship, and the two former sailors divided the wickets between them. Coggins made two extremely good catches off his own bowling, and the catch in the deep field, a long running one, with which Routley sent back Copeland, was an excellent one. For the City Cricket Club no one made double figures, but Court with 9, Bradstreet, the captain, with 8, Langmuir 9, and Hudson 9, all played good cricket, and kept up their wickets for a long time. An extremely pleasant match thus resulted in favour of H.M.s. Tauranga by 123 runs, the naval men being entertained most hospitably and kindly by the members of the City Club.
