HALF-HOLIDAY IN WELLINGTON.
A DEMONSTRATION. [BY telegraph.— press ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Wednesday. All drapers and clothiers who signed the agreement closed to-day except one. He contended that a bond should be signed providing penalties for non-compliance. A deputation waited on him without effect- Sandwich men were then put on the street" asking people to observe the halfholiday, and handbills were circulated to the same effect. In the evening a crowd gathered in front of the one shop. It was expected the owner was going to keep open, but he did nor, and the demonstration passed off harmlessly. At a meeting of the Early Closing Association this shopkeeper's action was strongly criticised, and it was decided to obtain legal opinion as to whether he could be forced to keep the ■igreement.
