The weekly returns of the Bank of England, published to-day, show the total reserve to be £18,330,000, and the proportion of reserve to liabilities is 5382. , Consols are 98. . Three months bills are discounted at 2£ per cent, , The market is quiet. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock is 1054 ; 3J per cent, ditto 95. Frozen mutton : First quality is 3Jd. New Zealand hemp is steady: "Fair to medium quality, £19. , The wool market is steady, with prices uui changed.
New Zealand long-berried wheat, ex warehouse, is firmer at 295; South Australian wheat, ex warehouse, is firmer at 30s 6d; Victorian ditto, 30s. . ' Sugar: German beet, quiet, at 15s; Java, 17s 6d. Market steady.' No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in the Clyde, 42s 6d, for cash. Per New Zealand Land Association, Limited. London, September 22. Frozen Meat.— mutton market has a hardening tendency. Wellington mutton is worth 3Jd per lb. Other quotations unchanged since last telegram. Tallow.—A rather better demand. Good beef tallow is worth 27s 6d per cwt.
