THE PAPAMOA AND OTAWA BLOCKS.
SAID TO BE SECURED BY A LAND ASSOCIATION.
[by telegraph.—own correspondent.} Tadranga, Saturday. It is said that the whole of the Papamoa and Otawa Blocks lately acquired by the Government, and comprising s"me 12,000 acres about six miles from Tauranga, have already been applied for en bloc by a land Association under the Land Act, and that practically the whole side of the country has been monopolised under the cover of Act to the exclusion of the general bulk of the public who may wish to acquire allotments. There are numbers of people coming from other parts of tho colony every week to inspect the land that is likely to be opened, bub it now appears that unless they can get enrolled as members of the Association they are to have no show, as the Association is alleged to have a right of priority through putting in a first application. There is considerable feeling on the subject. The general opinion is that everyone who wants land in the Papamoa Block should be on an equal footing, and all alike take their chance ab the ballot box. So far even the survey of the block is nob commenced, and at the earliest it will be six months and over before it is open to selection, yet the whole is practically pre-empted. So much for the Land Act. ••-■'■•' • ■ <
