The Chamber of Commerce has adopted a scheme to establish a voluntary tribunal of arbitration based upon the scheme employed by the London Chamber. From this tribunal arbitrators may be selected. No professional advocates will be allowed.
LIBEL ON A BANK. Sydney, September 15. Five news agents have- been committed for trial for libel in connection with the New South Wales . Savings Bank, through selling an- unregistered newspaper commenting in severe terms on the security and solvency of the Bank.
THREATENED STRIKE. Melbourne, September 15. , -A strike in the milling trade 18 threatening owing to the refusal of Brunton and Co. to interfere with three men in their employment, who are non-unionists. The Union declares it will not permit them to stop. The Owners' Association has decided to support the company.
PAY OF MARINE ENGINEERS. Melbourne, September 15. Negotiations between the shipowners and engineers have assumed a mora favourable complexion. The gap be« tween the two sets of proposals has been considerably decreased. Revised proposals have been submitted by the owners, and a conference will probably be called shortly to discuss them. QUEENSLAND RIFLE ;T COMPETITION. ' Brisbane, September 15. Corporal Bradley won the championship at the 'Rifle Association meeting, and Sergeant Milligan, of Charters Towers, won the Queen's prize. •
