Press Association.—Eleetric'felegraph.— SUNDAY CLOSING OP HOTELS. Adelaide, September 14. A stringent Sunday Closing Bill, introduced by a private member, provides that a publican on the third offence is to lose his license, and the customer is to be liable to from one to six months' imprisonment. The Government oppose the measure, -which is not likely to pass this session.
THE ROYAL TAR EMIGRANTS. Sydney, September 14. A cable has been received announcing the safe arrival of the New Australia emigrants at Monte Video, in the Royal Tar.
, THE VICTORIAN TARIFF. Melbourne, September 14. The Treasurer announced that owing to the rejection of the proposed reduction .in the municipal vote, the Government had decided to impose an additional Customs duty. The article selected was sugar, and the duty on that commodity would be double the duty from to-day.
THE PAY OF MARINE ENGINEERS. Melbourne, September 13. A meeting of shipowners refused to accept'the engineers' proposal, and demanded that the reduction be equivalent to 20 per cent.
