The deaths in August were 249, a decrease of 7 on the number in July. Of the total deaths, males contributed 147, females 102. One hundred and fourteen of the deaths were of children under 5 years of ago, being 45*78 per cent, of the whole number. The total deaths from specific, febrile, or zymotic diseases at the four chief towns in August was 33, being the same number in July, bub the proportion per cent, of deaths from all causes fell from 26-61 in July to 2340 in Augusb. The mortality was greatest at Wellington where there were 17 deatli3 of which 14 were from measles. The deaths at Christchurch were 11, all from measles. At Auckland there were 5 deaths, including :-l from measles. At Dunedin there were no deaths from zymotic diseases during the month, a remarkable circumstance. ' ' ' .
