NEW PLYMOUTH.

The annual meeting of the Unity Cricket* Club was held in the Council Chambers on. Friday evening, when there was a fairly good attendance. The following officers were elected-.—President, R, C. Hughes; vicepresidents, Messrs. W. Ambury and T. Brash; captain, J. Scandlvn; deputy captain, X. Asher; secretary, A. Zealand : treasurer, E. Evans.

The following are the exports from the Breakwater for August : —Butter, 106,8261b; 3ax, 128 bales; fungus, 22 bales; potatoes, 100 sacks; grass seed, 36 sacks; cheese, 57 ;ases ; tow, 22 bales; eggs, 5 cases ; tallow, )casks; 323 hides; cattle, 139; sheep, 408; lorses, 8 ; flour, 19 tons.

The Taranaki County Council's overdraft at the end of August stood at £3018 15s, £300 less than the month previous. The manager of the Bank of New South Walea has written to the Council stating that all the banks have agreed to raise the rates of interest on overdrafts to *l\ per cent, from the 4th prox. The Taranaki Acclimatisation Society received, on Saturday, 11,000 brown trout from the Masterton hatcheries. , The fish arrived in splendid condition, and were distributed in the following streams : —Tapaue, Waiongona, Patea, Oakura, Manganui, Mangatuku, and tributaries of the Mangoraka and Waiongona. A general meeting of the Taranaki Agricultural Society was held at the secretary's office on Saturday afternoon. There were present :—Vice-President H. Okey (in the chair), Messrs. W. Ambury, Hosking. King, Street, W. Cutfield, J. V. Dingle, J. C. and H. J. Honeyfield, Colson, Clarke, and others. The yearly balance-sheet was read and approved of. The meeting decided to hold the annual spring cattle show on the first Thursday in December. Considerable discussion took place as to whether it was advisable to confine the different classes of cattle to pure bred animals. Ultimately it was decided that no champion prize be awarded, unless the animals are of pure breed. It was decided to offer second prizes, instead of withholding the amount, unless there are over four entries, as provided by the present rules.— Correspondent.}
