THAMES DRAINAGE BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Thames Drainage Board was held yesterday morning. There were present: Messrs. G. S. Kis sling (chairman), W. S. Wilson, A. Porter, R, Spratt, R. Comer, H« Paltridge, J. J. Dickey, and J. F. Clarke.
Accounts. — statement of account! as presented showed the financial position of the Board was about the same as at the close of the previous month. The items were as follow :Receipts : To cash balance as per last statement, £046 17s Id ; received on account of contributions due, £215 16s 8d; total, £862 13s 9d. Expenditure: By accounts paid, £186 17s 7cl; by accounts to be passed, £81 Is: balauce, £594 15s2d: total, £862 13s 9d. Liabilities :To deposits, Craig and Ricket. £75; accounts due, £148 Is 2d : total, £223*18 2d. Assets: By cash balance, £594 15s 2d ; contributions due, £160; Saxon Gold Mining Company, £25 Os lOd : total, £779 16s. The balance-sheet was adopted, and accounts to the amount of £148 Is 2d were passed for payment.
Manager's Report.—Mr. W. H. Phillips reported that all the machinery had been working well during the month, and there has been no stoppages. He was still keeping the water 30 feet below the 400-feet level, at a speed of font and a-half strokes a minute. The working expenses had been £206. He estimated the extra fcoal consumed for pumping for the May Queen to be 20 tons, at a cost of £13. The supply for the month (includiner 60 tons 18cwt on hand from last month) was 222 tons 13cwt,andthe consumption 175 tons, leaving a balance of 47 tons IScwfc. • • Of this 6 tons 18cwt had been sold, leaving a stock on hand on September 1 of 40 tons 15cwt. The report was adopted. May Queen.The Chairman stated that for the month of July the extra cost for pumping to the 430-feet level for the May Queen mine had been £60 3s Id, and for August £13- However, taking into account an overcharge for coal, the total extra cost was £71 3s Id. It was decided that £50 be accepted in settlement of the claim. Queen of Beauty.— was decided to write to the proprietors of the Queen of Beauty mine demanding immediate payment of arrears.
Rebate.— rebate of 25 per cent, on contributions from mines paid within the month was agreed upon.
