CORRESPONDENCE.
FOUND DROWNED. TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Thomas Pearce, suffering! from heart disease, with no money and no home, discharged from the Hospital incurable, and without food to eat or a roof to shelter, is found drowned—and this is a Christian country, and of course nobody is to blame, and we go to our own comfortable firesides and thank God that we are not as other men. Oh, the shame of it! and this by no means a singular instance. Surely a portion of the Costley funds might be devoted to a home for destitute incurables who have neither means nor friends, and who by their age and infirmities are unable to earn a livelihood. Pray, sir, stir up our good pious friends, and they are very numerous in Auckland, to do something in the direction of helping poor homeless incurables.— am, etc., ______________ Humanity.
