AUCKLAND COURSING CLUB.

The second coursing meeting at the Avondale Plumpton Park, which is to open today, is exciting a large amount of interest. There are two events, the Champion and the Maiden Stakes, and inasmuch as there are some of the best of the Southern contingent engaged in both events to compete with the local dogs there is every prospect of exciting sport. The cards were called over at the clubroom of the British Hotel last night, in the presence of a large crowd of owners and backers, and so evenly did the betting go that it was difficult to detect which was the favourite. However, it was discovered at the end that the Christclmrch bitch, Bess Mor ley, owned by Mr. Taylor, was the favourite for the championship. The Maiden Stakes is considered very open, hut when all finished Curie, another Christchurch bitch, remained favourite. The coursing will start at twelve o'clock to-day, and it is arranged that brakes and 'buses shall leave the British Hotel at halfpast nine o'clock. The ground, we are informed. is in excellent order, and has not suffered materially from the recent rains, and as the hares are in splendid condition and thoroughly trained to their escapes the club ought to be able to repeat the success which they made of their first meeting. The coursing will commence with the first round of the Champion Stakes, then will follow the. first round of the Maiden Stakes, the second round of the Champion and the second round of. the Maiden will follow in succession, and this will give .38 courses irrespective of undecideds and no courses. Coursing will be started on Saturday at two o'clock, and arrangements have been made with the railway authorities for a special train on that day. The finals in both events will be then decided, and in the event of there been enough hares left a supplementary stakes will be run off.
