THE MISSES ALBU.
On Monday evening, the 7th, at the Choral Hall, the public of Auckland will have an opportunity of hearing the Misses Albu, two gifted sopranos who have just toured the sister colonies and the Southern towns of New Zealand, with great success. Mis 3 Julie Albu was a pupil of Jenny l.ind, and has taken every honour the Royal College can bestow on any vocalist. Miss Rose Albu is gifted with as great a voice as her sister, and she has also studied at the Royal Academy of Music. The ladies have appeared before the Governors of all the colonies they have visited, ami letters received by them from the Earl of Jersey, the Earl of Hopetoun, Lord Glasgow, Sir Henry Norman, and others, are of a most appreciative character. They select their Bongs principally from works of a popular type. Both ladies have been engaged to eing at somo of the best concerts in London, and they have gained success in both oratorio and ballad-singing. Their debut took place at the Alexandra Palace in 1889, under engagement to Mr. Sims Reeves, and the company on that occasion included Madame Patey, Miss Helene Dalton, Mr. Charles Santley, Mr. Stephen Adams, Signor Foli, and Mr Harrington Foote. They were born ir. England—Miss Julio at Leeds in July, 1808, and Miss Rose at Cheltenham in September, 1870. From all that is said of them by the colonial press and home papers, we may expect a treat at the concert to bo given on Monday next; and it is to be hoped that a hearty welcome will greet the fair songstresses whose fame has preceded them. With the Albu Company mention should be made of Mr. John Fuller, a tenor from the London ballad concerts, who has distinguished himself in ail parts. On the opening concert, to be given on Monday, the Misses Albu will sing two solos each and two duets, while Miss Julie Albu will give the "Miserere" duet with Mr. Fuller. According tp the booking at Wild man and Lyell's, the attendance will be a very large one. The Columbia Rink was well patronised last evening. To-night the members of the Waikato football team will be present. Entries are also due for the Mile Handicap, to be skated for on Monday. There were in the lock-up last evening two prisoners on charges of drunkenness.
