ki.i.in'oton, Friday. A sliciit shock of earthquake was felt at a quarter to three this afternoon.
Immigration returns us telegraphed from different/ ports, show arrivals for July, 1170 ; departures, 857.
Dun s", Friday. At a meeting of electors of the Peninsula portion of the Waikouaiti District, to consider the question of securing a representative, it was stated that Mr Scobio Mackenzie would stand if a good requisition were presented to him. A requisition is going round the district, and is very well signed, and the general feeling was in favour of Mr. Mackenzie.
An elforfc wan made to induce the University students to have the capping ceremony during the afternoon, but the majority decided that no change should be made.
A concert in aid of the Auckland Friendly Societies' Hospital Fund was given last, evening by tho Druids, in the Foresters' Hall. Previous to the concert a full-dressed Druidical procession was held. Headed by the Newton Band, tho Druids marched from St. George's to the Foresters' Hall. There was a large attendance at the concert. The hall was tastefully decorated with flags, ferns, and flowers. The following programme was creditably rendered, the number of encores being exceptionally largo :—Piano and violin selection, Mrs. McLeod and Mr B. Hood ; song, " Tho Boys in Blue," Mr. W. George (encored); song, " Remember Mo No More," Miss Marson ; song, selected, Mr. Tapper (encored); song, "Half-mast High," Miss Harvey; song,comic, Mr. C. White; violin solo, " La Reeve," Herr von Zimmormann ; song, selected, Miss Edmonds (encored); song, "She Wore a Wreath of Roses," Mr. Broughton ; song, comic, Mr. L. Dix (encored) ; ventriloquial sketch, Mr. W. Nairn and his Happy Family (encored); piano selection, Miss Gribben ; song (with violin obligato), "Serenade," Miss L. Warren and Herr Zimmermann (encored) ; humourous medley, Mr. L. Dix (encored); song, "Tho Cricket on tho Hearth," Miss Hill song, "Gorman Drinking Song," Mr. Worrall; song, comic, Mr. H. Chatwin. The entertainment concluded with a Druidical tableaux, with chorus, in full costume, and limelight effects. The new remedy, Electric Blood Renewer, is daily proving its superiority.
