The Northern S.S. Co.'s steamer Clansman arrived from Mangonui, Whangaroa, and Russell yesterday morning with kauri gum and sundries. She left for Tauranga last evening and returns to-morrow. Yesterday afternoon the Union S.S. Company's steamer Tarawera left for Southern porte, Hobart, and Melbourne. Last night the Northern S.S. Company's steamer Wellington left for \\ hangarei. The iron barque Clan Ferguson was cleared lit the Customs for New York yesterday with a full cargo of kauri gum and Hax. In the afternoon she hauled oil into the stream, and will sail to day if the wind is favourable. The vessel is in line trim, as during her stay in port she has undergone a thorough painting and overhaul, and the many friends which Captain McAlpine has made whilst here will wish him a safe and quick passage round the Horn. To-day the barque Wallace B. Flint will commenoa discharging her cargo of general merchandise from New York. The schoonor Gisbome is in the Auckland Graving Dock undergoing some repairs and overhaul, on completion of which she will load up for the East Coast and Gisborne. _ The barquentine Waitemata which sailed for the lvaipara on Tuesday has put into Mahunuigi owing to the north-east gale prevailing along the coast. The barque Devonport, which left the same day for Kaipara, is at anchor in Rangitoto Channel finding it impossible to proceed in the face of the contrary wind. Yesterday H.M.s. Lizard from Sydney arrived at Wellington, and after a short stay conies on to this port. The barque Vivid sailed from Kaipara Heads for Melbourne yesterday with a cargo of timber.

Owing to the continuance of the northeaster the barque Northern Chief is still detained in harbour. On Monday next the barque Natal Queen will leave for the Thames to loud timber at Bagiiull's mill for Sydney. Captain Moeller has resigned charge of the brigautine Victory, loading at the Thames for Sydney, owing to illness in his family, Captain McArthur taking the position. The vessel will sail next week.

The steamer Duke of Devonshire arrived at i'ort Chalmers from London yesterday. Yesterday the barque Kassa arrived at Lyttelton from Hobart. The Union S.S. Company's steamer Takapuna arrives at Onehunga from the South early to-morrow morning.

On Tuesday morning the Union S.S. Company's steamer Talune arrives from Melbourne and Southern ports, and leaves for Sviinev 011 Wednesday evening. The 'Union S.S. Company's steamer Upolu arrives at this i 011 from Samoa and Tonga on Wednesday next. The next of the Tyser Company's Bteamers due at this port is the Hawke's Hay, which left London for Melbourne on June 22. On discharge of cargo ut that port she proceeds to Sydney and then comes on to Auckland, and leaves for the South to frozen meat for London. Messrs. Stone Brothers and Co. are the local agents.

THE ACHIEVEMENT Wki.unmton, August 4.—The barque Achievement, Captnin Rees. arrived this afternoon from Liverpool, after a passage of 17- days. She encountered a succession of hard gales, and the weather throughout was unfavourable. The chief officer states that alter an experience extending over 4~> years he never met with such exceptionally adverse winds.
