THE SYDNEY INFANTICIDE CASES.
Sydney. August 2. The Privy Council having decided against the points reserved for the defence in the case of the condemned man Makin, convicted of murder in connection with the numerous cases of baby - farming, the Executive have decided that he shall pay the extreme penalty of the law on Monday week, 11th August.
REVENUE OF NEW SOUTH WALES. Sydney, August 2. The revenue for last, month shows a deficiency of £114,000.
REDUCTION OF MINISTERIAL
SALARIES.
Brisbane, August 2. The Government notifies that all members of the Ministry have voluntarily reduced their salaries by ten petcent.
SOUTH AUSTRALIAN TREASURY BILLS.

Oil engines for agricultural purposes are gradually coming to the front; no much bo that the Royal Agricultural Society of England have intimated that in connection with their Cambridge Show of next year (1894) they will offer the following prizes for fixed and portable oil engines, viz. :— Class I. Fixed oil engines, of 4 to 8 brake h.p., first, £50; second, £25. Class 11. Portable oil engines, of 9 to 10 brake h.p., first, £50; second, £25. All the prizes are open to general competition; and the adaptability of each engine for general purposes on a farm will be considered, especially as regards simplicity of design, strength, durability, stability, ami freedom from fouling,
