s The quarterly speed examination of the Auckland Shorthand Writers' Association was held in St. George's Hall last evening. Messrs. Jarretl and McLean supervised the examination. Certificates for a speed of 80 words per minute were awarded to Misses G. Heraus and N. Edmiston. Mr. W. J. P. Gaudin also obtained a certificate for 120 words per minute. There was a large attendance at the Columbia Rink last evening. To-morrow night will be a "ladies night," when there will be fresh novelties.
