THE SCHOONER MAILE LOST.
WRECKAGE FOUND. Press Association.—Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Hobart, April 19. A board bearing the name " Maile" has been found on the beach near Low Head, at the mouth of the River Tamar, forty miles from Launceston. The fact that a portion of wreckage from the Maile has boon washed ashore at Low Head would appear to definitely settle the question as to her fate, and leaves no hope whatever for either the safety of the vessel or her crow. It is surmised that the unfortunate craft mob with what is known as a "southerly buster" immediately after she left port, and wont down with all hands. Regarding the question a3 to whether the Maile was surveyed before she left Launceston, the following letter has been received:—"Sir,—The letter to you of Captain Daldy is so full of—shall I Pay mistakes?—that 1 would thank you to give this insertion. That I left the Maile at Launceston is true, bub not from any misbehaviour, but to come to Auckland to join the 8.8. Coromandol. A letter awaited mo for six weeks previous to arrival. Tho crow would all have left at Launceston but for the expense of coming home by steamer. The vessel was never surveyed, as Captain Daldy states, unless ib was at night, when everyone was asleep. Everyone was dissatisfied with tho condition of tho vessel, and my intention was to have left, her at Launceston if I had not been sent for. Tho cause of my leaving can easily be ascertained. I feel very keenly the loss of my shipmates, the crow, who wore in every sense a superior lot of young men, and 1 think if there is any blamo it is deserving to those who lived aft.—l am, etc., Charles Nixoy, Providore of s.s. Coromandel."
