A Masterton paper says that a man who has been discharged from the Wellington and other hospitals as incurable, has now sought relief in the Masterton institution, and is making fair progress. The Dunedin and Suburban Tramway Company have discharged nino of theiij guards because they would nob call out in opposition to the cabs the names of the three southern suburbs to which tho cars plied. The Worth Otago Times states thab the wheat in that district this year is the finest •ample that has been reaped for years, and it is expected that it will bring 'in the London markob a price fully equal to that of Victorian. The New Zealand wheat which lis quoted on the London market at the present time is last year's, the quality j of which is anything but good. i Pneumatic tubes now connect the Melbourne General Post Office with the Stock Exchange, and they have proved a success beyond expectations. The distance beween the two buildings is slightly more than a quarter of a mile, and the time occupied in transit averages 23 seconds. The tubes have an internal diameter of 2£ inches, and are laid beneath the street pavement. A weed called the " yarr," which grows like network and chokoa everything but grasses and clover, has made its appearance within the last three years in the Mataura district. The Danevirke paper reports a sensational accident which occurred on Sunday, April 9. Whilst a dray, drawn by three horses, was passing over a small bridge the structure collapsed. One animal was killed instantly, a second one broke his leg, and had to be shot, and the third escaped by jumping clear. In the dray were Mrs. Munro, her baby, and a boy, and though they were almost buried beneath the debris, they escaped without any serious injury. At St. Michael's Church, Christchurch, recently, the Rev. Walter Harper, in the course of his remarks, expressed his strong disapproval of the action of the newspapers in publishing long lists descriptive of the dresses worn by ladies at public gatherings, such as races.
