TWO PERSONS MURDERED BY A NEGRO.
New Orleans, Jan. 20.—A double murder was committed here yesterday by a negro ex-convict named Fisher, who had recently been engaged by Mrs. McMahon, an aged widow, who kept a grocery store, to assist hor in her business. Yesterday evening Mrs. McMahon sent Fisher on an errand, and on his return had found fault with a purchase ho had made. The negro at once seized a knife, and, catching tho woman by the hair, inflicted a severe gash across hor throat. Her screams attracted tho notice of John Barrett, a fireman, who at once hastened to the spot. The negro, meanwhile, had concealed himself in an outhouse, whore he was discovered by Barrett and seized. Fisher, however, still had the knife with which he had cut the widow's throat, find in a moment he had stabbed Barrett three times, killing him on tho spot. By this time tho neighbours had been aroused, and the murderer's escape was completely cut off, He was quickly shot down, and his body then hanged to a tree in tho yard. Mrs. McMahon's injuries will prove fatal.
