Wellington, Friday. The heaviest rainfall last month was at Inglewood, Taranaki, the record being 16-94 inches for twelve days of rain.
Christchcrch, Friday.
Mrs. Heath, wife of an hotelkeeper at New Brighton, died last night from the result of an accident caused through a runaway horse and cart colliding with a buggy in which she was sitting. By fire in Madras-street North, a cottage owned and occupied by Mrs. John G. Carr, whose husband, a solicitor, has left her, was totally destroyed. Mrs. Carr has been arrested on a charge of incendiarism. Insurance £100 on the house and £500 on the furniture in the New Zealand office.
Invercaroill, Friday. The licensee of the Prince of Wales Hotel and two others were fined £3 each and costs for carrying out a Calcutta sweep. ___
