THE BATAVTA RIVER RUSH.
Brisbane, November 23. The miners who are flocking to the Batavia River rush are experiencing much privation No less than forty were lost in the bush, and were only rescued after being two days without food, and others are still missing.
A MISSING BANK OFFICIAL. Melbourne, November 23. The accountant of the Port Melbourne branch of the National Bank of Aus- , tralasia is missing. His cash is short by £2700.
THE VICTORIAN PARLIAMENT. Melbourne, November 23. Sir B. O'Loghlen's motion of want-of-confidence was defeated by 51 to 38. Mr. Shiels, Sir B. O'Loghlen, and Mr. Deakin were the principal speakers.
THE NEW SOUTH WALES PARLIAMENT. Sydney, November 23. The second reading of a Bill providing for the legitimatisation of children born before the marriage of their parents was carried by 50 to 19. In the Legislative Assembly to-day, Mr. Barton moved his federation proposals. They are now being debated.
THE KANAKA LABOUR TRAFFIC.
Brisbane, November 23. , Since the Pacific Labourers' Act came into force, seven recruiting vessels have been despatched to the Islands, of which four have returned with 100 islanders. The regulations concerning the traffic are stringently enforced, and are giving great satisfaction.
H.M.S. ROYALIST, , Sydney, November 23. H.M.s. Royalist merely left on a regulation trial trip, and returned to port to-day. • ■ i__Li_L
