A Sydney Chinese gambling den was recently the scene of a serious riot. A dispute arose amongst a crowd of Celestials over a gambling transaction, and a free fight with billets of wood, iron bars, knives, etc., followed. Three Chinese were much cut and bruised, two so badly that they had to be removed to the hospital. Instructions have been received by Messrs. Cochrane and Sons to sell by public auction, the valuable and choice properties belonging to Mr. Thomas Seaman, situated at LakeTakapuna, Devonport, Awhitu, and Waikomiti. The lots to be offered include splendid building sites, and also wellsituated orchard and farm lands. The sale will take place at noon to-day at Cochrane's auction mart. Rev. 6. B. Monro, of Remuera, has been on a holiday tour in the Te Aroha and Ohinemuri districts during the last week. He delivered a lecture on the Highlands and Lowlands of Scotlandat Paeroa, Waihi, Morrinsville, and Te Aroha, to good and enthusiastic audiences. ,At the latter place the hall, on November 14, was crowded. He had a powerful magic lantern to illustrate the different places of note. Mr- Gotri manipulated the instrument, and Scottish songs were sung at intervals by Mrs. Gotri, Messrs. Mclndoe and J. Cornea.—[A Correspondent.] Mr. A. J. Entrican, of Custom-street, calls attention to his stock of Christmas goods now landing, selected by him while on a recent visit to England. The annual meeting of the Owera G.M. Co., will be held at the New Zealand Insurance Building, on the 30th inst. The annual meeting of the Calliope G.M. Co. will be held in tho same buildings on the 28th inst.
