FRENCH CABLE TO NEW CALEDONIA.
Prut Amciation.—Electrio Tehfraph.—CepyriaM.
',>' London, November 14. The French Cable Company has decided to lay a cable between Queensland m& New Caledonia, whether the Chamber of Deputies votes a subsidy of £8000 or not, though the latter is expected to pass the vote by the middle of December.
Surprise is expressed at Queensland and New South Wales agreeing to contribute £4000, since it is purely a French enterprise, and will, it is argued, prevent any future Pacific cable being constructed out of French hands.
The French Government profess ignoranee of any proposal to extend it beyond Noumea.
