R.M. COURT.—Thursday. [Before Dr. Giles, R.M.] Undefended Cases.—Judgment was given for the plaintiffs in the following cases; James Paterson Sinclair v. Daniel Joy, claim £12 15s 3d, costs £2 • 10s. Thomas Lay bourn v. Mrs. S. Smith, claim £10 13s 9d : Judgment was given for the plaintiff by consent for £3 ss, subject to a reduction to £2 13s, if the amount was paid within 14 days. James Davey and Sons v. Frederick James Watty,'claim £4, costs 17s 6d ; A. Buckland and Sons v. James Brown, claim £10 3s, costs 16s 6d ; Duder Box v. Emily Felex, claim £1 4s 9d, costs 7s ; Elijah Roose v. C. A. Watson, claim £22 12s 6d, costs 30s ; Edmund Thomas Dufaur v. Raiha Tenipoaka, claim £7 9s 6d, costs lis ; W. H. Potter v. Walter Price, claim 14s, costs 8?. . . Archhild Road Board v. Emma Hopkins.—Claim, £1 15s 9d, for rates. The collector appeared on' behalf of plaintiffs, and Mr. Cotter for the defendant. Mr. Cotter stated that defendant had paid onehalf the claim into Court, that for the last year's rates, but refused to pay the claim for arrears due. By the Act of 1882 the plaintiff could not obtain a judgment for rates that had been duo more than two years. Defendant had taken over the property from a man named Jones, and repudiated all liability for the arrears of rates. Dr. Giles said that the Act referred to by Mr- Cotter barred him from giving a judgment for the arrears. Judgment was given tor defendant (as to the amount nob paid into Court), with costs, 10s Gd* T. B. Bell and Another v. J. J. Austin.— £7 lis 6d, for ronb and rates. Mr. E. W. Burton appeared for the plaintiffs, and tho defendant appeared in person. Judgment was given for the plaintiff for full amount claimed, with costs. Wm. Grant and Co. v. R. K. Sinclair. —Claim, £1 17s Gd. Mr. Beale appeared on behalf of the plaintiff, and the defendant appeared in person. Defendant paid 12s 6d into Courb, and judgment was given for plaintiff for the full amount claimed, with costs, 16s 6d. POLICE COURT.— Thursday. [Before Messrs. W. Crowther and F. L. Prime, J.P.'s] Drunkenness, One firsb offender wa« fined 5s and costs, or, in default, 24 hours' imprisonment. James Black, for a second offence, was fined 10s and costs, with the option of 48 hours' hard labour. Margaret Barstow was also charged with drunkenness. She had been found in Alexandrastreefc with her head cut, and had been taken bo the Hospital. She was unable to attend. The case was adjourned for a week. Indecent Conduct.—Robert Leary was charged with having indecently exposed himself in Lorne-street. The Bench looked upon the offence as a very serious one, and sentenced the accused to six months' imprisonment with hard labour. Education Act.James Johnston was charged with having failed to comply with an order of the Courb to send his child Gilbert to school. Mr. Small, the truant officer, said that the father desired an adjournment, in order to give him time to take steps to have the boy committed to Kohimarama. The father had been fined on several previous occasions for a similar offence. He was quite unable to control the boy, who was almost always on the streets. The case was adjourned for a week. George W. Wiicock was charged with having neglected to send his children to a public school. The defandant said his children were at present attending school. Mr. Small stated that the man had refused to send the children, stating that he wanted them to help him at home. An order that the children be sent to school was made, with costs. Rachel Fletcher was charged with having failed to comply with an order of the Courb to send her child Joseph to school. Defendant did not appear. Mr. Small said this was the most deliberate instance of evading the Act thab bad come under his notice. A fine of 40a and costs was imposed, • ; , , ;:
