A CURIOUS DISPUTE.
[by telegraph.—press association.] Wellington, Monday. A case of some importance to trotting clubs has occurred here in connection with the Johnsonville and Hutt County Trotting Club, which holds its inaugural meeting on Saturday. The club appointed Mr. Ulrich Shannon handicapper, and the programme was passed by - the New Zealand Trotting Association with his name as official adjuster of starts. Mr. Shannon handed his handicap to the Secretary on Friday night, but the stewards, at a meeting the same evening, revised it, and the revised handicap was published with the announcement tfe*,t Mr. Shannon had been relieved of his duties as handicapper. Mr. Shannon insists that his handicap is the only official one, and advertises it in the local papers, at the same timet submitting ' the matter to the Trotting. As nociation for their decision. The club nave also sent their view of the matter;,, and several owners are asking what is their position. The decision of the association is awaited with considerable interest, and in no'me circles it is though that the split will lead to the meeting falling through.
