At the company practice of the City Guards, at the Mount Eden Rifle Range, on Saturday, a match took place between teams, of. ten selected by Color-Sergeant) Taylor and Sergeant Coleman. Classfiring targets were used, and the ranges were 200, 300, 400, and 500 yards, five rounds at each' distance. ,' Sergeant Coleman's team proved the winners by 29 points, their totals being 477, against 448 made by Color-Sergeant Taylor's ream. In Melbourne, a few days ago, a curious application came before the committee of the Women's Hospital. Two ladies, representing the Victorian Vigilance Association, waited as a deputation on the committee to request that when girls under 16 years of age were succoured in the wifery, department of the institution, the particulars of the story confided by them in their trouble to the sympathising ears of the hospital officials shall be handed over to the V.A., to enable its members to institute prosecutions under the Crimea Act, if they chose.
