A DISPUTE BETWEEN LOCAL BODIES.
[BY telegraph. OWN correspondent.] Thames, Thursday. At a meeting of the Borough Council tonight, a letter was received from Mr. J. A. Miller, solicitor, with reference to the dispute between the Council and the Charitable Aid Board as to the ownership of the Old Men's Home. Mr. Miller's opinion ad mitted of no misconstruction, for he states that the property belongs absolutely to the Council by virtue of the purchase, and emphasises this expression by asserting that there is no intermediate position. He concludes his letter by recommending that if the Charitable Aid Board fail to pay a reasonable rent for the premises, the only remedy for the Council will be by action in the Supreme Court, to have its legal rights defined and enforced. After some discussion, it was decided that the Council should assert its legal rights, but before doing so should send a copy of Mr. Miller's letter to the Charitable Aid Board. ' -
