POLICE COURT.— [Before Dr. Giles, 8.M., and Mr. J. H. Hannaa . J.P.] Drunkenness.—One man, a first offender, was fined 5s and costs, or in default 24 hours' hard labour. Alleged Theft of Earrings.— Moody was charged with having, on the 17th October, stolen a pair of earrings, valued at 2s, the property of Philomena Mantoora. Accused pleaded nob guilty. philomena Mantoora deposed that she a Syrian, and twelve years of age. She was a hawker Sho lived iD Alexandra-street. Un the day m question she was selling various articles in. the neighbourhood of St. Patrick s Cathedral. Accused came up, and picked up a pair of earrings, promising to pay witness for them if she came to her residence. Witness came, but on arriving there accused said she had not got the ear-, rings, and refused to pay for them. Witness then informed the police. The earring produced was one of those stolen. WitnesS did nob promise to trust accused until 12 c dock. Detective Hughes gave evidence as to the arrest of the accused. She was then wearing the earring produced. The accused deposed that she took the earrings on condition that the girl would trust her until twelve o'clock. Witness would have paid at that time, bufc the girl Mantoora gave her in charge before then, and she did not then have the money. Dr. Giles did nob think the evidence was strong enough to prove a case of actual stealing, though the circumstances were very suspicious. The accused was discharged. House of 111-fame. —Catherine Wheelan pleaded guilty to having kept a house of illfame in Cook-street, and was fined £5, or (in default) one month's imprisonment. Carrie Best and Alice Teresa Hartnell were each charged with being inmates of the said house. Mr. O'Meagher, on behalf of each, pleaded guilty, and each was fined 20s and costs, or (in default) seven day's imprisonment. Wandering Horse.—David Mclndoe was fined 5s and costs for allowing his horse to wander on Wellington-street, One-tree Hill.
