BOARD OF EDUCATION
The fortnightly meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Education was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs. S. Luke (chairman), R. Udy, and J. Muir. Tenders.Tenders were received for repairs to the school and teacher's house at Whatawhata as follow:—David Elliott, Hamilton, £3S lis; Wrigley and Withy, Hamilton West, £39 15s; Arthur Nelson, Archhill, £67; R. Kay, Parnell, £68 ; Charles Laver, £96. The lowest tender was accepted. A tender sent in by Mr. James Grant, £6 10s, for rebuilding chimney at Mullet Point, was accepted. Statistical.—A return of public school statistics for the quarter ended September 30th, 1892, was submitted as follows : — Number of schools (including 18 half-time schools) : 283, an increase of 2 ; teachers : male 265, an increase of 12 ; female 397, an increase of 11; total 056, an increase of 23; sewing teachers 43, a decrease of 5 ; scholars on roll: boys, 12,083, a decrease of 4; girls, 11,468, a decrease of 33 ; total 23,551, a total decrease of 37 ; average attendance : boys, 9820; girls, 9166; total 18,986, a total increase of 29. Chapel-street School.—A letter was read from the City Schools Committee asking for the names of all those who applied for the position of head-master to the Chapel-street school. lb was resolved to give the names for the information of the Committee, bub nob to forward them as candidates for the vacant position. Mr. Warren, of Tuakau, one of those whose names was forwarded to the Committee by the Board has withdrawn his application.
