[bt TKLICGRAPH. —own correspondent. ] Thames, Tuesday. The Thames County Council have struck a general rate of six farthings in the £ for the ensuing year, which is a reduction of 33} per cent, on last year's rating. The annual meeting of the Thames Land, Building, and Investment Society was held this evening, Mr. James Renshaw pre siding. The report presented stated that the business done during the past year had not been sufficient to enable any bonus by way of dividend to be declared, owing principally to the unsettled position of mining affairs throughout the district, which had compelled the committee to be more than usually cautious in making advances. Therefore, the number of transactions had been considerably curtailed. The profits for qhe year were £930 6s 7d which had been distributed as follows £618 4s 5d absorbed by being added to shareholders' accounts at the rate of 6| per cent, per annum, compounded at the end of six months, £159 17s 4d as general expenses, and £52 for office rent, leaving £100 4s lOd to be carried forward to the credit of next year. The report and balance-sheet were received and adopted. Some discussion then took place as to the desirability of disposing of the Tararu Garden, upon which the Society held a mortgage for £580, and it was eventually resolved, " That the committee be instructed to dispose of the same to the best advantage." Messrs. B. Rollerson and R. A. Heald were re-elected members of the committee.
