ST. STEPHEN'S CHURCH, OPOTIKI.
The annual meeting of the parishioners has been held in the church. The Rev. J. _D. Russell, incumbent, presided. The meeting was opened with prayer. The People's Warden (Mr. J. H. Parkinson) presented the annual accounts, which showed the church to be in a comparatively satisfactory financial condition. The incumbent's stipend had been fully provided for; repairs had been made to the church at a cost of about £80; and a small sum in reduction of the debt on the parsonage had been paid; leaving a balance due on the year's account of under £1, whilst the available assets amounted to £20. A considerable debt still remains on the parsonage. The Rev. J. D. Russell reappointed Mr. C. B. Rogers as clergyman's warden, Mr. J. H. Parkinson was re-elected people's warden, and the retiring vestry were re-elected. The Sunday-school returns were considered very satisfactory—there being 129 children on the roll, with eight teachers. There had been held during the year a class for instruction in the Prayerbook., with '29 on the roll a prayer meeting and Bible-class, with a membership of 54: and a youths' meeting (educational .and social), with 26 adherents. These meetings were held weekly at the parsonage. The usual votes of thanks terminated the meeting.—[Own Correspondent.] - ;
