CRUELTY TO A CHILD.

SENTENCE OF IMPRISONMENT. [BY telegraph.—PßESS ASSOCIATION.] Mastbrton, Monday. The charges of cruelty to a child against Thomas and Elizabeth Goodgame were resumed in the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day. The female accused admitted in cross-examination having shamefully illtreated her, but stated that it was done to make her break off bad habits. Elizabeth Goodgame was sentenced to four months' imprisonment and Thomas Goodgame to three months' bard labour. The decision was received with applause. The Magistrate remarked that it would have been incredible to one who had not heard the evidence that any parents could have been so cruel to their offspring.
