INDEPENDENT ORDER OF RECHABITES.
The thirtieth annual meeting of the New Zealand District, No. 84, in connection with the above, was held on Wednesday evening, in Robson's Rooms, Queen-street. There was a full muster of officers and representatives. Brother John Dan by, of the Thames, presided. At the invitation of the No. 1 Tent, the officers and representatives sat down to a sumptuous dinner, served up in Mr. Robson's well-known style. From the District Secretary's report we learn that there are seven adult and three juvenile Tents, with a membership of over 400, and accumulated funds amounting to £7500. The sum of £532 had been disbursed in sick pay during the year, and the capital had been increased by £464 6s 4d. There had not been any claims on the funeral fund during the past half-year. A good deal of ordinary routine business was transacted during the session, and the following gentlemen were elected office-bearers for the ensuing year : — D.C.R., J. M. B»rr: D.D.R., G. Kent; D.S., J. G. Carr (re-elected); D.T., P. Crowe (re-elected); D.G., G. Davidson (re-elected); auditors, E. J. Carr and F. Knight; conference delegates, E. J. Carr and J. G. Carr ; solicitor, W. Coleman. Strong exception was taken to the action of the Government altering the past arrangements with regard to valuers, and it was decided to hare the matter brought up at the Friendly Societies' Conference with a view to support the action of the friendly societies at Dunedin, who have entered a combined protest against the change; and further, if the Government revert to the old arrangement, then Mr. C. S. Wright, public valuer, is to be asked to value the district for the quinquennium ending the 31st December, 1892. A successful and harmonious meeting was brought to a close at 1.35 a.m.
