The Northern S.S. Company's steamer Wellington arrived from Whangarei last evening, bringing a number of passengers and a quantity of kauri gum and sundries. She will leave for Whangarei again at 10.30 to-night. Yesterday morning the s.s. Chelmsford arrived from Whakatane, Tauranga, and Kuaotunu, with several passengers and 274 sacks maize and a quantity of sundries. She was detained at Whakatane for several days owing to the north-east gale which prevailed along the coast last week. The s.s. Douglas arrived from Whangarei yesterday morning with a cargo of coal. The barque Kathleen Hilda arrived from. Newcastle yesterday morning after a rather lengthy passage of 21 days. Captain Davies reports having sailed from Newcastle on July 20 with a light westerly wind, which •went into the south-east the same night, and continued until the 27th. On that day the weather became unsettled, and easterly galea and calms prevailed until passing the North Cape on the 7th instant; thence light variable winds to arrival. The barque has berthed at the Hobson-street wharf to discharge. . .. . . . The steamer Kanieri, which is to run in the Auckland and East Coast trade, has received a thorough overhaul on the Wellington slip, and her passenger accommodation Las also been increased. ' # - Last evening the barquentine Waitemata arrived in harbour from Newcastle with a cargo of coal for Mr. J. J. Craig. Owing to the Health Officer not being able to visit the vessel until this morning, no communication with the vessel will be permitted until that gentleman has inspected her crew and granted a clean bill of health. Captain Campbell reports having sailed on July 30, and variable winds have prevailed throughout the passage. • The Union S.S. Co.'a steamer Te Anau left for Southern ports, Hobart, and Melbourne shortly after noon yesterday. The B,s. lona left for Kuaotunu and Mercury Bay last night. The barque Alexa sailed for Maiden Island yesterday afternoon to load guano for the Bluff. ® Yesterday morning the Northern S.S. Co. steamer Glenelg was towed out to the hulk . by the lona, where she took in a quantity of coal, and berthed at the Queen-street Wharf afterwards. This morning she will go down to Drunken Bay to have ner compasses adjusted, and will leave for Onehunga via Hokianga to-morrow. • ; ;_1 t The s.s. Argyle, which has been running on the West Coast for some time, past, is expected here this morning. Her crew are to 40 over to the Glenelg. •

The Union s.s. Co.'s Fijian steamer Ovalau went into the Auckland Dock for cleaning and painting yesterday. , It Is expected that the American barquentine Abiel Abbot will he a full ship to-day, her cargo being exclusively of kauri gum, and will consist of about 5000 cases. Captain Tooker expresses himself its being very well satisfied at the prompt despatch he has received at the hands of Messrs. Arnold, Cheney, and Co.'s representatives, this being the quickest time in which his vessel has been discharged and loaded during his connection with the port." . ... The coastal trading schooner Awanui will sail for Gisborne via tne East Coast to-day. The brigantine Darcy Pratt has berthed at the Breastwork, to the eastward of No. 2 Jetty, for cleaniug and scraping. Yesterday the barque Devonport berthed at the No. 2 Jetty to take in stores, etc., previous to sailing for Hokianga to load timber for Sydney. The Northern S.S. Co.'s steamer Clansman leaves for Tauranga this evening, at 7 o'clock. The three-masted schooner Grei has been fixed, through Messrs. Younghusband and Co., to load timber from Whangaroa to Sydney for the Kauri Timber Company.
