The brigantine Darcy Pratt arrived from Newcastle yesterday morning, with a cargo of coal. Captain Niflson reports having left Newcastle on July 17, and experienced fine and fair weather to the North Cape on the 27th: passed Cape Brett the next day; thence light baffling winds until early yesterday morning, when a strong N.E. breeze carried the vessel into port. She has berthed at the Railway Wharf to discharge. Yesterday rooming the schooner Ivanhoe, which has been engaged in an extended island cruise for some months, under charter to Messrs. J.T. Arundel & Co., arrived in harbour. Since leaving here the schooner has visited Flint Island, Tahiti, Samoa, and Savage Island. She left Apia on July 9, and Nuie on the 19th. Fine weather has been experienced all the trip. The vessel comes in ballast, and has berthed at the Railway Wharf.

The Union S.S. Company's steamer Waibora left for Sydney last evening. For Tonga and Samoa the Union S.S. Co. Bteamer Upolu left last evening. ! The barque Devonport has been fixed by Mr. M. Niccol to proceed to Hokianga to load baulk timber for Sydney under charter . to Mr. R. Blair. Yesterday the barque Wenona was entered outwards at the Customs for Launceston via Kaipara. She will clear to-day, and sail to-morrow. . • The brigantine Zeno was - towed to an anchorage in the stream yesterday afternoon, where she will remain until a payable charter is obtained.

The Island schooner Jessie Niccol came out of dock . yesterday, and berthed at * the (|ueen-street Wharf. She is to load up for At the* Customs yesterday the Melanesian Mission yacht Southern Cross was cleared for Norfolk Island. If the weather is favourable she will berth at the Queen-street Wharf this morning, and leave for her destination in the afternoon. _ , . H.M.s. Orlando left the harbour for Fyi yesterday afternoon. The barque Alexa has finished discharging her cargo of oats from the Bluff. Mr. G. Bailey has secured the contract for docking, painting, cleaning, and overhauling the vessel, on completion of which she leaves for Maiden Island to load guano for the Bluff. She will go into dock to-morrow. Yesterday the Northern S.S. Co. a steamer Glenelg was taken into the Auckland Dock for paiuting, etc. . We learn from the New Zealand Shipping that they intend altering the speed of their mail steamers on the outward trip during the months from August to December, and on the homeward trips from February to May. During those months the vessels will go at full speed, which will make a considerable difference in the time occupied on the voyage. The ferry steamer Tainui, having been overhauled, cleaned, and paiuted on Bailey's slip, came off yesterday. The Takapuna is now on the slip for similar treatment. By the Union S S. Co.'s steamer Upolu yesterday evening Mr. C. Bailey shipped a new pilot boat, which he has just completed to the order of the Tongan Government. The boat is a fine specimen of workmanship and is built of kauri planking with hardwood knees, etc. She is 24 feet long, 6 feet broad, and has a centre-board, lockers, etc. She is fitted to pull five oars, and has a complete outfit of sails, oars, and everything requisite for the business in which she is to be employed. The Melanesian teachers at the Banks' Islands sent up an order by the mission yacht Southern Cross for a boat to be used in and about the Islands. The order was placed in the hands of Mr. C. Bailey, and the boat is to go down by the " Cross' to-day. It is a similar one to that just completed by Mr. Bailey for the Tongan Government, with the exception that it is not fitted with a j centre-board.

Yesterday afternoon the three-masted schooner Maile came out of dock, and was berthed at the breastwork. During the afternoon the schooner Awanni discharged a quantity of ballast into the Maile. The barque Northern Chief is alongside the breastwork to the eastward of Quaystreet jetty, where she is being cleaned and scraped. The Invercargill sealing ketch has been placed in the hands of Mr. YV. H. Brown for alterations and repairs The principal alterations include an entirely new cabin. After completing her alterations and repairs the ketch will proceed to her fishing grounds, and at the beginning of the year will again come into this port for the purpose of being altered into a topsail schooner. H.M. s. Curacoa was at Suva on July 28, and H.M. s. Royalist was expected to arrive there daily from a cruise. The barque Devonport, Captain Greenwood, has been chartered by Mr. R. Blair at a very payable rate, to load timber at Hokiauga for Sydney. The brigantine Linda Weber arrived at Rarotonga on July 21 from this port. The passage only occupied nine days from Rangitoto reel, where the vessel was detained for several days owing to a strong N.E. gale. Captain McKenzie reports experiencing tine weather during the smart run down. The Linda Weber was to leave for Wellington about July 28. The ketch Nellie, which was chartered at this port by Messrs. De Lisle and Hammond, was cruising amongst the Islands when the Richmond left Rarotonga, as was also the schooner Goldfinch.

THE OVALAU. Yesterday morning at 11 o'clock, the Union S.S. Co'.s Fijian steamer Ovalau, Captain R. E. Smith, arrived in harbour from Levuka and Suva, with a number of passengers and a cargo of sugar, fruit and general Island produce. Of the round trip, Mr. George Crawley, the purser, to whom we are indebted for late Fijian files, reports that the steamer left Auckland at 9 p.m. on July 15; called at Russell the next morning, ana left again at 5 p.m. Kandavu was passed at parsed at 9 a.m. on the 22nd, and Suva reached at 3 p.m. the same day. Left Suva at 6 a.m. on the 24th, and arrived at Levuka at noon. Remained there until noon of the 25th; called at Laucala Bay and Denba, returning to Suva, which port she left at 8 a.m. on the 28th, the steamer arriving here as above. Strong head winds and heavy seas were experienced on the outward trip, and light variable winds and fine weather on the homeward trip. Immediately after berthing the work of discharging the Auckland consignments was proceeded with, and the steamer left for the Sugar Works in the afternoon to discharge the sugar portion of her cargo. She leaves for Wellington this morning.

THE RICHMOND. The Island steamer Richmond, Captain R. G. Hutton, arrived in harbour last evening, from Tahiti and Rarotoiiga, with a cargo of fruit, copra, pearlshell, and general Island produce. Of the round trip, Mr. C. E. Jones, the purser, reports that tne Richmond left Auckland on June 29, and arrived at Rarotonga on July 7, at 11 a.m. Landed passenfers and cargo, and left the same evening for 'apeete (Tahiti), which was reached on the 11th. Owing to the native feast being in progress, the steamer was detained for several days. On July 19 left for the loading grounds at Tautira and Viarao and loaded a cargo of oranges, returning to Papeete on the 22nd. Left the same day, and arrived at Raratonga on the morning of the 25th. Took in a number of cases of oranges and general produce, and left for Auckland at 11.30 p.m. on the 26th. Fine weather was experienced throughout the round trip. The Richmond is announced to leave for Raratonga and Tahiti on Monday next.

The Union S.S. Company's steamer Mahinapua, Captain W. J. Mewton, arrived from the South yesterday. Mr. Hodson, the purser, reports that the steamer left Wellington at 2.5 p.m. on July 31, arrived at Nelson at 1.20 a.m. on the Ist inst., left again at 1 p.m. for Taranaki, arriving there at 4 a.m. on the 2nd inst.; left Taranaki again at 11.30 the same night, crossed the Manukau bar at 11.5 a.m., and arrived at the wharf at 12.35 p.m. Experienced light N. W. breeze as far as Nelson, thence to Taranaki had fresh S.W. wind and sea from thence to arrival had fresh northerly breeze with smooth sea. Early yesterday morning the Northern Company s.s Gairloch, Captain McArthur, arrived alongside the Onehunga Wharf. She left New Plymouth the previous day at 3 p.m., and brought up several passengers, and 11 pigs, 90 head cattle, and other general cargo. The Northern Company's Argyle arrived at 4.15 yesterday afternoon from Hokianga.
