WALKING MATCH AT DUNEDIN.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PEESS ASSOCIATION'.] Dunedin, Tuesday. — The twelve hours walking match, being the second out of three matehes between F. Bowen, champion of Australia, and Joe Scott, champion of the World, came off yesterday in Garrison Ha.ll. Scott, who has only taken gentle exercise since the last match, to allow his strained muscles to recover, was in something like his old form, though lie started very stiff. Bowen forced the pace again, and had 9 laps to the good, bat had to retire twice through feeling sick, and at half-past two Scott had a lead of 2 laps. Bowen, on returning again, forced the pace, and steadily gained until he was 3 laps to the good. Scott appeared then to make up his mind not to let him go further, and for nearly four hours they reeled off mile after mile, Bowen just at Scott's heels. The latter was making the pace at about 5£ miles an hour, and it was gradually becoming evident that Bowen was being worn down. About half-past seven Scott regained one of the laps, and Bowen, when he attempted a spurt, commenced to reel. Scott, forcing the pace, drew even on his opponent, and then gained a lead of two laps. About a quarter to eight, when he had covered 51 miles 9 laps, Bowen retired from the hall. After Bowen retired Scott continued to walk steadily until eleven o'clock. At a few minutes before that hour he finished his 67th mile, and was going strong and fresh.
