ENGLISH PRODUCE MARKETS. [FROM OCR OWH CORBESPOKDKNTS.] London, June 24. Wool.—Messrs. Jacomb, Son, and Co. report under date 22nd instant :-Tho third series of auctions of colonial wool began here on the 14th instant The daily offerings have thus far been very heavy. Should they so continue, the series must close tome days before the 19th of as Originally fixed The attendance from all parts has been very large throughout. The tone and general complexion of the market ie one of confidence. Competition has been general, with, as far as that for the Continent Is ooucorned, a decided preponderance from our German customers. There is a good demand for the U.S.A., without, however, much supply of the qualities to suit their (somewhat *' difficile '0 requirements. The »ho w of short, poor, and faulty merinos has been in large proportion, and such have not met with an eager reception, at rates hardly ©aualHng those of the close of the April sales j all better and super descriptions in grease well support, and frequently slightly improve upon, that currency. Crossbieds have rather agreeably disappointed tho market generally ; in tlio fftceo! large supplies of colonial and other kindred descriptions, a weaker demand and lower prices were anticipated than have practically resulted ; it is only the mixed and Inferior parcels which do not support our previous auction's currency, and the depreciation on these is but small ; middle and faulty scoured, such sell unsatisfactorily; but lambs' are in brisk demand at full rates. Cape and Natal wools, in small supply, well support previous values in all conditions. 4415 bales of woolled sheepskins were sold in this market on the 16th instant, with but little change from our previous currency, save a trifling turn here and there In favour of sellers. ~ , heMessrs. Birkett, Sperling, and Co., report under date the 22nd instant :— Dullness is still the prevailing feature in the grain trade, and even at the present moderate range of values, there seems no disposition to speculate, but simply to purchase for the covering of immediate and near wants. America, with the exception of a few spas modic improvements, continues to droop, values of to-day showing a decline of about 2a per quarter since last mail, and this, coupled with the moderate prices which our home farmers are accepting, has militated seriously against the sale of colonial wheats, lower prices even failing to increase sales. Adelaide and Melbourne : We have no fresh arrivals, but the demand continues very slack, and we quote spot values at 35s 6d to 36e per 4961b. For parcels on passage to London sellers ask ike, o.f. and 1., 4801b. Make we value on the spot at 23s to 23s 6d per 4801b. Off coast several wheat cargoes have arrived; the last sales reported being the Elise, at about 34s 3d per 4801b, c.f. and i., and the Loch Cree, at 345. In careoes on passage there is nothing doing. New Zealand; We report arrival of a lew small shipments. The sale for this description of wheat continues extremely limited, even at lower prices, which factors are willing to accept, millers are tempted with the low prices which farmers take to English, and the moderate values at which they can purchase fine American. We quote good long-berried, 34e to 355; short, 32s to 33s 6d; but inferior and out-of-condition parcels are not worth more than 30s to 31s per 4901b. Oats have met a good consumptive sale at rather lower figures, say, 18* to 20s per 3201b, up to 22s to 2fc per 3841b, ex eranary, according to quality and condition. Of barley there is very little here, and we quote values 25s to 27. per 4481b. &kize,23e to 23* 6d per 4801b. Beans. 33s to 38s. Peas, 33s to 40s per 5041b. Off Coast we are without arrivals. For cargoes of wheat, on passage, sellere ask 349 per 4801b, c.f.i., but buyers do not respond. , Frozen Meat.—Messrs. Henry Fitter and Sons' report under date of June 24 binco our last report trade has been rather slow, the weather having been warm and, just now, very wet. The rain we are getting will improve the grass, and encourage farmers to hold their stock. The supply of home-killed mutton has been much snorter and prices higher, but within the last few days there have been larger quantities arriving, and prices are again lower. American beef has continued very plentiful until the last few days, when supplies slackened and prices improved. This bos caused a better demand for New Zealand beef; but as the stock it now heavy, and all are anxious to sell, the prices remain low. Continental mutton and home-killed old ewea were last week very short J but are now more plentiful and cheaper. New ' Zealand mutton is in fair demand but stocks are now heavy, and many holders are anxious to sell before the demand drops off, which will probably be . the case in August and September. During the past week there has been a large supply of English lamb on the market, and prices have dropped very considerably. Tins has had the effect of somewhat reducing the demand for frozen lambs but stocks are not heavy, and if care is exercised the prices for New Zealand lambs should remain farm, vve regret to say that the Arawa is discharging her cargo in a most unsatisfactory condition. Many carcases on being brought up were found to be very soft, and were sent baett to be hardened up again. There are also many when closely examined that are found to be developing the mildew spots. The damage done by hardening up again, or by the slight appearance of the mildew spots, would not be very great if the carcases could be put on the market at once, but if it is necessary to keep them for two or three weeks in the refrigerator, it then found they come out in far worse condition. Unless this bad state of affairs is altered, and something is done to keep the chambers at such a temperature as to ensure the meat being kept thoroughly hard during the .journey, it will be quite impossible to put it on the market in good condition, 10-day» § rices are, per stone of 81bs, as follows :— Scotch sheep, 4s 10d to fis 4d ; English, 4s 8d to 53; Continental, 3s 4d to 4s; ewes, 3s2rt to 3s 8d ; Canterbury (New Zealand), 2s 7d to 2s lOd ; Wellington (New Zealand), 2s Od to2s 8d; Queensland, 2s 4d to 2a 9d; Sydney, 23 4d to 2s 5d ; River Plate, 2a 4d ; New Zealand beef, hindquarters 2s 3d to 2* M, forequarters Is 5d to Is 7d; American, hindquarters 33 6d to 3s lOd, forequarters 2s to 2s 4d; New Zealand lambs, 3s 6d to 4s; English, 43 to ss.
