THE POULTRY SHOW.
The arrangements for the Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Show, which is to be opened to-day at the Agricultural Hall, next the City Market, are now in a very forward state, and all exhibits intended for the decision of the judges were caged last night by eleven o'clock. Other birds intended for exhibition only will be taken in later on. The arrangements, while somewhat on the same lines as those of previous years, are improved in one respeot, and that is that better provision is made for allowing visitors a view of the exhibits and a more liberal space. Judging will commence promptly at 7.30 this morning. Mr. James Pettie, of Wellington, who is the judge selected for poultry, has arrived to take up his duties, and the class stewards associated with him are Messrs. C. T.Wren and R. 0. Young. Mr. W. Arthur is judge for the pigeon show and Mr. C. Bartley for canaries, and the stewards in these classes
are Messrs. G. Cruickshank and Jarvis The committee have determined to hold them-
selves free from any imputation of influence, for neither judges or class stewards are in any way connected with the committee. An exhibition or some of the leading prizes for the art union in connection with the show was held last night, in the shop in Queenstreet recently occupied by Messrs. Beehan Brothers, drapers. They made a very fine display indeed, comprising as they did suites of furniture, arm chairs, chests of drawers, Duchess suites, bedsteads, musical instruments, cruets, etc. There are, in all, upwards of 80 ornamental and useful prizes. The show will be formally opened to the public at two o'clock this afternoon, and will continue open daily until Saturday night, when the art union will be drawn.
